Umpqua River Unprovoked Shark Attack

On September 27, 2010 David Lowden, was attacked by a Great White Shark, while surfing with Mark Lorincz, and Justin Martin at the South Jetty of the Umpqua River in Winchester Bay, Oregon.
It was 4:00 PM and they had been on the water about 45 minutes. It was sunny with a light fog coming and going and an estimated air temperature of 65 degrees Fahrenheit. They were 80 - 100 yards from shore, in water 15 - 20 feet deep with a sandy ocean floor and 4 - 5 feet of water visibility.

The 9th Annual Longboard Classic contest will begin at 8 am on both Saturday and Sunday. Check-in is being held at the Rogue Brewery from 6-8 pm on Friday evening, September 8th. Contestants will receive a commemorative T-shirt along with other gifts donated by local sponsors. Brewer's on the Bay will be open for food and drink—this starts the Gathering! Come all.

The Oregon Open Ocean Classic is an 7.5 mile, North to South Stand Up Paddleboard race along the Oregon coast from Beverly Beach State Park to Nye Beach, Newport.
