|Escaping the Summer Heat at the Oregon Coast!|
NEWPORT -- Hannah Wynn describes the Oregon coast with a short shriek: “I love the beach!”
The 15-year-old was dashing into the waves at Newport, on the central coast, with her sisters, 11-year-old Gracie, and 19-year-old Hannah.
They drove the short distance from their Lebanon home just to cool off this weekend, while much of the state was roasting in record temperatures.
“We needed some sister time,” Hannah said, as the trio stood on the sand, drenched and giggling. “I was shocked the water was so warm.”
Not far away, Hannah La Jeunesse was playing with her big chocolate Lab, “Gus Gus”, who was swimming out farther than all the humans in the ocean.
“The water is so warm because of the Santa Ana winds and the current from the south,” said Caroll’nne Breshears, who moved to Newport from southern California a few weeks ago to join La Jeunesse. “We would stay in all day if we didn’t have to go to work.”
Like many coast communities, Newport will have fireworks and a parade on the 4th of July. Charter boat operators are offering cruises to see the fireworks from the water, starting at dusk on July 4.
