Weather can be wet and wild this time of year on the coast, but the 20-minute pull of a prime-time 50-pound salmon can very quickly warm a fisherman's heart. The old-timers who run the fishing charters from the Tillamook area docks will tell you it's the early angler who catches the fish, so be prepared to hit the bay before the sun comes up. If you follow the rules and talk to local anglers who know best, odds are you'll land the big one. After all, more than 12,000 king salmon are caught each year on Tillamook Bay and the five rivers that flow into the bay. Special rules protect the king salmon from overharvest. You'll only be able to keep one per day and five per season, but that's a year's worth of outdoor excitement...  |
