23rd Annual Reach the Beach Ride

The ride starts from four different locations: Portland (100 mi), Newberg (80 mi), Amity (55 mi) or Grand Ronde (28 mi). We provide superb organization, beautiful routes, medical and mechanical support on course, 8 lunch and snack stops and a magnificent beach party with a delicious, hearty feast. Reach the Beach is one of Oregon's premier cycling events.

This benefit ride for the American Lung Association is perfect as a personal challenge or to ride together with friends and family. Proceeds will help prevent and cure lung disease and promote lung health through education, advocacy and research.

To be a part of this great Oregon tradition, each rider pays a low registration fee and collects at least $75 in tax-deductible donations (by donating to yourself or by encouraging friends and family donate to your ride) by the start of the ride. Our online fundraising tools make it fun and easy to inspire coworkers, family and friends to support your ride.

ABOUT THE RIDE

Reach the Beach is widely acknowledged as the official start of the Oregon cycling season. Four different route options make sure that the event has a little something for everyone, from experienced cyclists to those new to distance riding. Characterized by Oregon's stunningly varied landscape, the rides proceed from rolling wine country fields, through tiny towns, to the pounding surf and soaring dunes of Cape Kiwanda where a finish line beach party awaits.  The waves will be crashing on the shore as the sun sets behind Haystock Rock and you relax in Pacific City.

Reach the Beach is a top notch ride with amazing support.  The ride is limited to 3,000 riders - sign up early and tell your friends so you don't miss out!

Full support includes:

  • Continental breakfast
  • Two lunch stops
  • Rest stops at least every 15 miles
  • A gourmet finish line dinner + beach party
  • Medical and mechanical support on course
  • Baggage transfers
  • Hot showers and massage available
  • Extra friendly, supportive volunteers
  • Support vehicles to pick you up on course
  • Finish line at the award-winning Pelican Pub
  • Everyone's favorite: fickle weather
  • And of course, a great cause

ABOUT THE ROUTES

Couch potatoes, weekend warriors, and seasoned cyclists alike will enjoy one of four different routes through Oregon's wine country, forests, and little known towns on mostly quiet roads on Reach the Beach. The roads are well marked, making it easy to follow along the ride while you absorb 360 degrees of breathtaking scenery.  All routes end at Cape Kiwanda in beautiful Pacific City at the Oregon Coast.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

If you like riding your bike, sign up as a rider and reach the beach on your bicycle. If you aren't a bike rider, sign up as a volunteer. With both options, you'll have your own personal online fundraising page where you can raise funds to fight lung disease and promote clean air in Oregon through education, advocacy, and research. Proceeds from Reach the Beach will ensure a future with clean air, healthy lungs and smoke-free workplaces.

AMAZING PRIZES AND REWARDS

As if the picturesque journey, beach party and delicious food at every step of the way were not enough, we also have great incentives to encourage you to raise financial support for the ALAO while participating in Reach the Beach. You'll find list of fundraising prizes on the fundraising page.

Our online tools make it fun and easy to quickly raise the funds needed to qualify for prizes, and donations are tax-deductible.
