Seaside – Seaside Beach will be the site of the first major amateur beach soccer tournament to be held on the North Coast. Scheduled for June 5-6 the event will have adult and youth divisions of 32 teams each.

Presented by the Seaside Chamber of Commerce the event is open to teams with players beginning at age nine.

Sand soccer fields, called pitches, are smaller than standard soccer pitches due to the greater difficulty of the playing surface. The rules are slightly different but the fast pace of match play is just as much fun for players and spectators.

Alan Smiles, Executive Director of the Chamber commented, “We are excited to be creating this event. Beach soccer is tremendously popular on the East Coast and in many foreign countries. The Chamber puts on the country’s largest amateur beach volleyball tournament and we look to do the same with beach soccer. This tournament will help present Seaside to a new audience that will benefit the City and city businesses.”

Teams are encouraged to register early since the number of team slots is limited.

The Chamber is also looking for experienced referees and time keepers to volunteer.
